Task 1 map

For a map task, first check how the area function changes.

A map task is about change; building-by-building description is only raw material. The key is which areas are expanded, replaced, redesigned, and whether the overall function changes.

Location language should explain change rather than form a scattered list.

Find the overall change

For example, an area may shift from residential to commercial, or from empty land to facilities.

Group by area

Groups such as north, centre, and east are often clearer than building-by-building description.

The core of a map overview

The overview should show the biggest change, the most stable area, and the overall functional shift; details go in the body.

What to revise after checking

Split the map into two or three areas first, and write only one main change for each area.

  • Whether the overall change is clear
  • Whether details are grouped by area
  • Whether location language supports comparison
