Task 1 bottleneck

For many Task 1 reports, a solid overview is where the score moves.

When the overview is missing, too generic, or focused on the wrong features, the whole report reads like data reporting instead of explaining the overall pattern. That directly caps Task Achievement.

Overview problems are often misread as weak vocabulary or weak phrasing, but the issue is usually feature selection.

Missing overview

The detail paragraphs are done, but the overall pattern is still missing.

Overview is too vague

The report says there are changes or differences; it still needs to name the biggest direction or contrast.

Wrong main feature

A minor detail becomes the overview axis while the dominant pattern is left out.

Why it directly caps the score

Task 1 asks you to tell the reader the most important overall relationship first. When the overview fails, even complete detail paragraphs feel like they lack judgment.

Revise feature selection

Many learners know they need an overview; the hard part is picking the two changes most worth mentioning. The rewrite target is feature selection rather than a sentence template.

Find the biggest rise, fall, or stable pattern first
Then identify the comparison that matters most
Only then write the overview sentence
