Task Response dictates the ceiling
If you fail to clearly answer all parts of the prompt, or your position fluctuates, the examiner determines you haven't completed the basic task, rendering other scores meaningless.

The Myth
As long as I write several complex relative clauses, the examiner will give me a Band 7.
The Reality
If your Task Response isn't a 7 (i.e., a clear and consistent position), excellent vocabulary and grammar won't pull your overall band up.
Maintain absolute consistency
During practice, write your intro position on paper. When writing the first sentence of every body paragraph, check back: does this sentence support my main position?
- Ensure intro and conclusion match, with body paragraphs supporting the core stance
- Make sure the examiner can spot your view instantly
