Check whether sentences move forward
A strong body paragraph moves from claim to reason, then to example and consequence. Each step should answer the reader’s next question.
Coherence and Cohesion
Coherence is not adding more connectors; it is helping the reader follow your thinking.
Many essays add however, therefore, and moreover, yet the paragraph still breaks. The real check is how each sentence relates to the previous and next one.
Repair relationships before connectors.
Paragraph jobs must be clear
Each paragraph should complete one clear job, keeping position shifts, examples, and conclusions apart.
Connectors alone struggle to fix broken logic
Adjacent sentences need a real relationship first; a forced connector only exposes the problem.
What to revise after checking
If coherence breaks, rewrite one body paragraph and label each sentence: claim, explanation, example, result.
- What question this sentence answers from the previous one
- Whether the next sentence moves the idea forward
- Whether references are clear

Linking mistakes
